The Reason You Can’t Find Peace

Updated: Sep 7, 2020

Embracing that life WILL be hard, AND approaching it from the perspective of Acceptance v. Change may very well be the key to finding a peaceful mindset & outlook in your life.

One key element to finding inner peace is embracing that life WILL be hard. We cannot avoid that. Therefore, we must change our approach to how we cope with the challenges we face.

“You will never change the fact that being human is hard, so you must change your idea that it was ever supposed to be easy.” @glennondoyle -Untamed

Life is Hard

Life is exhaustingly challenging. Some days, we just need to remind ourselves that it’s ok to not be exactly where we want to be. It’s ok to be overwhelmed. It’s ok to be sad. It’s ok to feel stuck.

Part of our challenge as human beings, especially human beings living in 2020 who believe that everything should have a "quick fix," is accepting & embracing ALL of our emotions, all of our experiences (good and bad) & all of our challenges.

✨Learning to live in the discomfort✨

Many of us struggle with this concept: "I don't like feeling this way, get me out of it." We begin to look for ways of controlling all aspects of our lives. But what happens to our mental health when we try to control everything, even the aspects of life we have no control over?

Part of having healthy boundaries with YOURSELF is knowing when you need to seek #connection & ask for help or #support versus when you need to #letgo & embrace the discomfort.

Enter DBT

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy teaches us that life is full of dialectics, meaning that two things can be true at the same time. The ultimate dialectic, according to DBT, is #acceptance v. #change. This concept has helped countless people through every day life stressors, addiction recovery, tragedy, stage of life changes, & even trauma. It postulates that in order to find inner peace, we must:

1. Accept what we cannot change.

2. Change the most difficult aspects of ourselves.

Questions to Consider

What do you need to accept (& let go of- mindfully learning to live in the discomfort) that is outside your power & control? What do you need to accept instead of control? What emotions are you scared of facing?

Alternatively, What gets in the way of you taking responsibility for your actions, & embracing internal change, & living in the discomfort? When we attempt to control everything & avoid asking for help or setting limits, we see increased anger, conflict, resentment, #burnout & #depression arise.

Learning to accept all of our emotions, especially the difficult ones, awakens us to the fullness of our human experience. Realizing that we have the #strength to withstand our darkest #emotions makes us #resilient

Let It Go

It is so empowering to recognize & let go of the things in our lives that we cannot control, & therefore must accept, ✨like life is HARD✨ while simultaneously identifying what IS within our power & control to change, & shifting our focus to act within those goals.

Radical Acceptance is not passive, it is an ACTIVE choice that leads to improved #selfempowerment #mentalhealth #wellness & will increase your #selfworth #confidence & #empowerment ⁣💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿
